Sat 6th Apr     Library Theatre Touring Company presents   Fanny Hill   by John Cleland

Generally regarded as scandalous, John Cleland’s early English novel ‘Fanny Hill’, has been adapted for the stage by Peter McGarry . Colourful and erotically charged it proved an exciting and entertaining evening of theatre. It was a racy evening, a cross between a historic period piece and Expressionist theatre, with knowing, contemporary overtones - say, Hogarth crossed with Big Brother.

Fanny Hill a beautiful country bumpkin, is lured into a life of Sin in Georgian London; poverty meeting greed and debauchery as society is exposed. Jane Collins played the lovely heroine and Debby Kelly her maid Phoebe, her companion, lover and narrator, as we witness her rise and rise through society, with Roger Cook and Mike Brooksbank playing the multitude of men who facilitate this.

Roger Cook of the Library Theatre Touring Company which has presented two highly succesful productions at the Hall recommends this version of 'fanny hill' "There is no nudity or four-letter words and having some knowledge of your audience we think it should go down well !!"

Sat 4th May     Doc Harvey and the Philistans     www.docharveyandthephilistans.biz/

Cast your mind back to a time when life was not so easy ... to a time when Lancashire was invaded by survivors of the Spanish Armada, when Bavarian thigh slapping was practised openly on Pendle Hill, when the County could boast 484 and a half brass bands, and diesel was only three shillings a gallon.

These amazing facts have been discovered by Doc Horatio Harvey, the world's leading authority on the lost songs of Lancashire. After years of painful research, in such places of hardship as Stalmine Reading Room and Bolton C.W.S. Tea Rooms, he has assembled an astonishing list of ever to be forgotten songs.

In order to bring these songs in front of a paying public the Doc has bribed his musical collaborators Phil & Stan Philistans (not related) to join him in the venture of presenting his gleanings to an astonished world, significantly through the medium of Radio Thrutch FM, possibly the the world's only virtual heritage radio station.

Music, humour, something new - - - what more could you want!

Sat 1st Jun       Claude Bourbon           www.claudebourbon.org/

Born in France in the early 60’s, Claude Bourbon grew up in Switzerland, where he was classically trained for many years. This finger picking guitarist has performed and studied all over the world; he has crafted an unbelievable fusion of classical and jazz, with ethereal Eastern influences, Spanish and Latin elements with strains of Western folk.

The unique Monsieur Bourbon is a formidable performer. He may have his roots in the blues, but he is inspired by music and song from all around the world, taking these sounds and weaving them into a performance of blues, rock, jazz, songs and melodies that defy a label, all delivered with a gravely voice.

Claude’s inimitable style incorporates all five digits on each hand dancing independently but in unison, plucking, picking and strumming at such speed and precision that his fingers often seem to melt into a blur. Thousands of people in the UK, Europe and USA have enjoyed listening to this virtuoso and for the majority of his audience it is an experience that compels them to return again and again to hear and watch him play, as his fingers lightly dance over the strings of his guitar and create a unique sound that is ’Claude’.

Now based in the UK, some of this guitarists’ influences allow us a fascinating insight into this remarkable musician; Paco De Lucia: Deep Purple’s Richie Blackmore; Joaquin Rodrigo; JJ Cale, Monty Python; JS Bach and Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks ...

Tickets for any of these events, at the very reasonable price of £6
